New Construction: BDI DreamWeaver at Good Shepherd School, Peace River

See the vibrant green and brown BDI DreamWeaver™ in action at Good Shepherd School in Peace River. This case study examines our global shipping capabilities and the "functional linking" design that creates a continuous Lava Tag circuit, while providing a critical technical warning regarding the abrasive risks of stone-slinger gravel installations on powder-coated equipment.

New Construction: BDI DreamWeaver at Good Shepherd School, Peace River

BDI Play Designs Inc. is proud to see our SteelCore™ DreamWeaver featured at the newly completed playground at Good Shepherd School in Peace River, AB. This project, a brand-new construction, showcases a vibrant Spring Green and Chocolate Brown color palette, designed to integrate with the natural tones of the Peace River Valley.

Architectural Impact: The 9-Foot DreamWeaver
As a global playground equipment supplier, we ship our modular SteelCore line to remote and northern locations worldwide. The DreamWeaver serves as the site’s "showpiece" for several reasons:

Play Value at Height: Standing 9 feet tall, the unit features an integrated internal bridge, offering a complex climbing experience that maximizes student capacity.

Integrated Play: The DreamWeaver as a Functional Link
Beyond its role as a visual showpiece, the BDI DreamWeaver at Good Shepherd School is strategically positioned to serve as a functional link within the broader playground environment. By anchoring the central 9-foot bridge between existing play structures, the DreamWeaver transforms the site into a continuous, high-intensity circuit. This layout is specifically designed for popular play patterns like "Grounders" or "Lava Tag," where the goal is to navigate the entire park without touching the surfacing. The transition points from the playground decks onto the 20mm SteelCore netting create a seamless flow, allowing students to move from traditional play elements into the complex, three-dimensional climbing space of the DreamWeaver and back again, maximizing the usable play-path of the entire site.

Northern-Grade Materials: Engineered for any climate, the unit utilizes 20mm steel-reinforced nylon rope and pressed aluminum connectors. These components are impervious to the brittle-fracture risks associated with plastic connectors in extreme Alberta winters.

Long-Haul Logistics: Our equipment is packaged and palletized for high-durability transit, ensuring that even when shipping across the province or internationally, the components arrive ready for installation.

A Cautionary Note: Gravel Surfacing & Installation Risks
The surfacing at Good Shepherd School is 10mm triple-washed round pea gravel. While pea gravel is a compliant safety surfacing, this project highlights a critical risk during the construction phase: the stone slinger.

In this instance, the gravel was installed using a stone slinger with little regard for the newly installed equipment. When gravel is high-speed "slung" into a play zone, the 10mm stones act as high-velocity projectiles. This lack of care can lead to:

Immediate Powder Coat Damage: Impact from slung gravel can chip and pit brand-new powder coatings, exposing the underlying metal to the elements.

Surface Scuffing: Abrasive contact during high-speed delivery can dull the vibrant finishes of the equipment before the playground even opens.

BDI Play Designs Inc. advises all school boards and contractors to ensure that when gravel or sand is being delivered, protective measures are taken—or better yet, consider the use of Engineered Wood Fiber (EWF) or Pour-in-Place (PIP) Rubber, both of which we offer and install in-house to ensure the integrity of your equipment remains pristine.
