Charlotte Small Elementary School Outdoor Classroom

Installed at Charlotte Small Elementary School in Condor, Alberta, this Outdoor Classroom by BDI Play Designs demonstrates how thoughtfully designed spaces can transform learning and community engagement. Featuring the UrbanBeam Shelter, the structure combines modern aesthetics with functional durability to create a welcoming outdoor environment that blends seamlessly with its surroundings.

Designed for multi-purpose, the UrbanBeam Shelter’s versatility makes it ideal for many uses—ranging from picnic areas and community pavilions to park rest spaces and event shelters. Its wood-inspired supports and steel design provide long-lasting protection from the elements while maintaining a natural, inviting appearance.

Complemented by Stately Picnic Tables, the space comfortably seats over 30 students or community members. Each table offers an accessible, low-maintenance design with perforated surfaces for drainage and open ends to meet CSA inclusivity standards. Combined with a concrete pad and flexible layout, this multi-purpose area supports both structured activities and open gatherings.

BDI Play Designs proudly created this outdoor classroom for Charlotte Small School and continues to help Alberta communities design engaging outdoor spaces for learning, recreation, and connection.
